The process took 1 week. I interviewed at BB&T in Nov 2009

      Interview

Was initially called to set up a phone interview with the HR at their corporate office in NC. Phone interview lasted about 20-30 minutes. It consisted mostly of talking about my background in sales and why I think I’d be a good fit in this position, and how my previous experience has prepared me for this position. There were a few behavioral questions such as, “how do you handle rejection”, “how would you handle someone who just kept saying “no”?”, “why do you think you would be a good fit for this job”, etc. Also spoke about the job description and basic job duties…they also asked how much I would like to be compensated for this position. I was told that the position pays mid $30’s to low $40’s base, plus quarterly commissions and a yearly annual review/bonus. Did not go into details about commission structure. I was called back about a week later to have a one-on-one interview with the sales manager. The interview went into more detail about what would be required out of me to do the job…what my territory would be. Lots of talk about the business as a whole and the state of their current market and the market for merchant services. It was an interesting interview and I learned a lot. After chatting about the job and business for about 30 minutes we moved on to more behavioral questions. They were general questions such as: Describe a time when you overcame something Describe a time when you worked hard and reached a goal Describe a time when your integrity was harmed and what you did to repair it Describe how you manage your work day…do you like it loosely planned or tightly scheduled? Describe your usual process for selling something Describe how you would handle an account that decided to go with another company for the services you were trying to sell them There were about 10-12 questions in all, similar to those above. Most were about time management, handling objections, how you have succeeded in the past, and how you handle certain common sales/customer service issues. Overall it was a good interview. It lasted approx 1 hour and 20 minutes and was pretty relaxed for a bank. I’m waiting to hear back from them sometime in the next week or two. Don’t forget to send follow up emails after the interviews!
