      Account Manager Interview

      5 Feb 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Park City, UT
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 8 weeks. I interviewed at Backcountry (Park City, UT) in Dec 2022

      Interview

Clunky and uncoordinated. I first applied online and received a call within a few days from a fairly new backcountry recruiter. He did a phone screen with me and set up a call with the Assistant Controller, the direct report for the position. After a great virtual interview with him (he lives remote and only visits the office a few times per quarter), the recruiter set up an onsite interview. It was scheduled for a Thursday and, since employees are only in the office Monday-Wednesday, the place was a ghost town. Totally understandable, however it seemed that they wrangled the only accountant they could for the interview and game him a 5 minute notice. He rushed down to meet me and, as he showed me to the conference room, he admitted he hadn't seen my resume and knew nothing about where I was in the interview process. The conversation with him actually went pretty well and, although he works in a separate department and would have no oversight, I got the feeling that we could work well together. I had a call the following day with the Controller (who also lives remote and visits the office on occasion.) His concern was that I was overqualified. After a 3rd positive interview, I proceeded to hear nothing from anyone for 6 weeks. I respectfully followed up with a text and an email to see if I had been dispositioned and requesting any feedback possible, but received silence. After 6 weeks I received a curt phone call from the recruiter in which he notified me that he had lost my contact info and that's why he hadn't reached out sooner. Ultimately, they were going in a different direction. I had obviously already moved on, but it was just weird and unprofessional.
