      Backend Software Engineer Interview

      14 Oct 2024
      Anonymous employee
      Milan
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Bending Spoons (Milan) in Jun 2024

      Interview

The interview process starts with an online assessment with tasks that evaluate your personality, logical thinking, mathematical reasoning, and programming skills. This is followed by interviews that go deeper into similar areas, including behavioral responses, logic and reasoning, and system design. I think it was more fair and interesting than the usual algorithm interviews and OAs that are common in the industry. Overall, the process was challenging but also very rewarding. The company is also flexible and makes an effort to accommodate and expedite the process if needed. Well worth it!

      Interview

I've only got to the task part after the initial screening. It took a few hours to complete. The tasks essentially required logic and mathematical thinking and tested a very narrow skillset. No feedback was provided afterwards.

      Backend Software Engineer Interview

      16 Aug 2023
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Bending Spoons in May 2023

      Interview

The interview consisted of 5 parts. 1. Seven questions in an online form that you had 48 hours to complete. They were mostly about logical thinking and reading and understanding texts. 2. Same format but with two programming questions (more algorithmics-like) and some more logical thinking questions. 3. A logical-thinking interview one-on-one. 4. An HR interview with two HR representatives. 5. A tech interview (more about system architecture and things like that rather than actual coding) with two engineers. The whole process was quite pleasant, with quick feedback and clear information on what the next steps would be. It was, however, pretty time consuming.

      Interview questions [3]

      Question 1

(tech interview) A service stops responding in production - what do you do to understand why that happened and what are some potential fixes to each of these problems?
      Answer question

      Question 2

(tech interview) What are the different types of databases (SQL, NoSQL etc.) and when should you chose one over the other?
      Answer question

      Question 3

(HR interview) Describe a time that you had to take leadership in some project - what were the challenges?
      Answer question
