I received a reply to my application relatively quickly. I was asked to fill out a written interview which I prefer as it prevents off-the-cuff responses. After submitting the questionnaire, I received a response to schedule a phone interview. I did think it was strange that the phone interview was with a recruiter and not the hiring manager. My suspicions were correct, as the recruiter proceeded to ask me the same questions that I had just filled out. I did not want to seem as if I was reading out loud my responses, so I summarized my answers. I realized I was ill-prepared for the interview, as I prepared for a different set of questions. The recruiter stated that she would send my answers to the hiring manager and they would decided who to interview next. It dawned on me that the recruiter would forward my well thought out written answers to the manager based on my phone interview. Phone interview was completely redundant and pointless as she never read my written interview.
