Extremely Deceptive. They seem to be the same company formerly known as "ORA Group International" in Jersey City, which has a significant number of reviews identical to mine on Glassdoor. Applied online to be an administrative assistant and was selected to interview immediately. Initial interview lasted about five minutes, when they told me to prepare to be there for 20. Said they were impressed by me (it seems everyone is fed this line) and asked me to come in for a second round, full-day interview for the most competitive candidates. It is worth mentioning that when I told them I had applied for and was interested in administrative work, they completely dismissed this and told me I would be trained in all parts of the company.
When I arrived for my second interview, the office (which was poorly maintained and playing loud pop music) was extremely crowded and they actually ran out of seating. They had us sign a waiver saying we were free to leave at any moment, which was also a red flag. Was introduced to my trainer, who took me to an off-site location to do a preliminary talk. They explained the difference between "marketing" and "sales" making it sound like the job would involve us assessing the needs of corporate clients. Then, my day got interesting.
Without really explaining what was going to happen next, I was asked to take the train with my trainer to another town, so that I could shadow their everyday work. The job is cold call, door-to-door sales. The weather was extreme and I ended up walking almost five miles, and told that I would be expected to do twice as much every day. I was also asked to pitch several customers (which I was previously told would not be asked of me on an interview/was not allowed) which was uncomfortable but I felt unable to decline, especially since I was in a strange town with no easy knowledge of how to get back to public transport and go home.
After our lunch break, we went over the finer details of the job. I was asked to come prepared with my expectations for compensation. Instead I was drawn diagrams which confirmed the company was operating multi-level-marketing/a pyramid scheme (without even offering the choose your hours/work from home model many successful MLMs offer). Was also told that the pay was purely commission, and the job was 6 days and over 60 hours weekly, when I had stated in every stage that a work-life balance, weekends off and reasonable hours were a priority for me and the reason I had left my previous employment. They told lies about hourly employees not being allowed to have benefits, while never saying that their employees would receive any form of benefits. The weekly salary they quoted averaged to about $6/hour with no base salary, purely commission. Although they tried to convince me that I could be making close to half a million dollars in under a year if I followed their model.
After about 6 or 7 hours we returned to the office where my trainer left me so I could meet with the Hiring Manager (I assume all office employees here are also salespeople who rotate as "trainers" or "managers" as needed) to have a final interview. I filled out a very long test which they barely read, and then proceeded to make me an offer. By this point I had planned to ask for a day to think it over, then call back and decline. They pushed very hard for me to move up my start date (I said I needed two days, but they pushed me to start immediately), but when I said it was not flexible for me they told me I was already scheduled to start, never directly asking if I was interested in the job. They will not be hearing from me again.
