      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Blackbaud (New York, NY) in Feb 2014

      Interview

Soon after applying for the Marketing Associate position online, I received an email asking if I would be interested in taking an online assessment with a cognitive test (i.e. IQ test) and a personality quiz. The personality portion has no time limit, and there are technically no wrong answers, although the employer hopes to find you have the right character traits based on your answers. For every question you have to choose how strongly you agree or disagree with a statement. The questions become repetitive and it is as if you are trying to solve a logic puzzle with so many statements seemingly contradicting each other. The test aims to calculate how much lying you are doing about your traits as well as what those traits are. For the cognitive test, you are told at the beginning that you are not going to finish it in the time allotted. You have to answer pretty simple math questions and figure out the next shape in a pattern. It's similar to most standardized IQ tests that I have taken. I called the recruiter to ask if I was still being considered for the position about a week after I took the test, and the day after I received an email from the recruiting team stating I was not. It was polite of her to email me back, but I obviously did not get the job based on tests. Somehow, my IQ is high enough and my personality is good enough to graduate magna cum laude from an Ivy League university, but not good enough for the Marketing Associate position at Blackbaud.
