Blacklane has, in my experience, been proactive about hiring. They don't just wait for people to come to them. So the interview process is variable, depending on how you enter it. Most people have a phone screen followed by coding homework and then an on-site interview with a few different people. My manager met me at a Meetup and actively recruited me. I also had a ton of code on GitHub that he was able to look at, so he didn't ask me to do a coding challenge. I had a formal interview with him, the frontend team, and the director of engineering, but these felt more like casual chats than grueling ordeals. I enjoyed them. I think they're just looking for colleagues who aren't jerks and are perfectly happy to hire smart people who aren't necessarily 10x developers but who can learn and grow on the job.
