      Electronic Trading Market Specialist Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Bloomberg

      Interview

I applied through the Bloomberg website and got a call/email from a Bloomberg Recruiter in New York. We arranged an in person interview in their offices. Initial perception was that it was very much a "personality" interview, they basically want salespeople, and weren't too interested in discussing specifics about the market or get too detailed about my previous work experience. They asked a lot about my experience with the Bloomberg platform and Bloomberg products, but they asked them in the vein of "what did I like about them" and "how do I think so and so product can be improved". It was like they were conducting a Bloomberg user feedback survey. Other questions were "what is your favorite Bloomberg function", and "what Bloomberg function do you think is under utilized and why?". I have a good sense of how interviews unfold and this one didn't feel good to me at all but I dutifully sat through it. I didn't really get a grasp of how they measure their sales people's performance or set compensation, it seemed extremely loose to me and very much personality based. I asked them if entertaining clients was expected and got a flat "No", which seemed odd to me because I always thought sales and entertaining go hand in hand. The interview lasted about 45 minutes and I only met 2 people. They asked questions about how I feel about public speaking and if I feel comfortable speaking in front of large groups. I didn't like those questions because I thought it was obvious from my resume that I had project management and presentational experience but never mind. Anyway, called the recruiter in a couple days and she said she received and email from the recruiter stating that I was not quite what they were looking for for the position.

      Question 1

They ask a lot of questions about the Bloomberg itself so definitely refresh yourself on all the functions you've ever used etc.
