I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at BrandVerity (Seattle, WA) in Feb 2018

      Interview

I applied online, and a recruiter was in contact with me within a few days. There was an initial phone screen, followed by a coding exercise, followed by a technical phone interview, followed by an on-site. The phone screen, coding exercise, and the technical phone interview were fine. Everyone I spoke to seemed pleasant and professional, and I had good feelings going in to the on-site. However, the on-site was not handled well. The trouble started when neither the recruiter nor the contact person she designated were at work that day, and so I had to wait in a stairwell for another employee to happen by to admit me through the locked door. Two of the interviewers seemed extremely uninterested in talking to me, with one even checking his phone in the middle of the interview. Neither of them allowed me to ask any questions of them before they rushed out of the room. The company asked me to travel to the interview from out-of-state at my own expense. Further, their idea of hospitality for a four hour mid-day interview was to offer me a protein bar while reiterating that they would not provide lunch. I have marked "no opinion" because my impression from dealing with them on the phone and via e-mail were quite positive, but in-person they were rude, cheap, and wasted my time.

      Software Engineer Interview

      Interview

Less than a week after applying for the "Experienced Software Engineer" position, I received an email from their recruiter requesting a phone call with her. That phone call was centered around culture and fit, with questions such as "what are you looking for in your next position", "tell me something about yourself outside of work". It was a very pleasant conversation, but nothing technical discussed at all. At the end of that conversation, she said she felt there was a good culture fit, and said they'd like to move to the next level, involving a programming challenge they would email to me and I would complete within 2 hours of starting it. The programming challenge was fun, and not too difficult, but I had to work diligently to complete it within 2 hours. And it had to work, because they were going to run it on their sample data set and ensure it produced the correct output. I should mention that they asked that the programming challenge to be implemented in Java or Python, but I requested to do it in C#, which they agreed to. They have only Mac's and Linux machines in their office, and my background is all Microsoft. I was impressed that they were willing to let me do it in C#, and that they were even talking to me, since I didn't know Python, their primary coding language. Ultimately, they decided not to move forward with me, because apparently they had a more qualified candidate. But throughout the process, they were very pleasant and easy to work with. I think BrandVerity would be a great place to work!
