      Content Strategist Interview

      6 Dec 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Breather (New York, NY) in Nov 2018

      Interview

Applied online and was contacted shortly thereafter. Following an initial call with the recruiter there were several confusing emails attempting to schedule what I was told would be a follow-up call but then turned out to be an in-person interview. I had a positive and productive conversation with the head of product marketing. It seemed as though she was looking for someone more senior but they asked me back for further interviews. The recruiter contacted me two days before my on-site interviews saying she had no work samples on file although I had sent them with my application. I used the opportunity to pull together further samples and resent. In the subsequent two interviews neither person I spoke with referenced the work samples at all so that seemed like a waste of time and effort. The first conversation with the VP of product was interesting but fairly casual - totally professional. The following interview with a real estate consultant was pretty terrible. He was aggressive and condescending - asking vague questions and then continuously interrupting me. I couldn't tell whether he was just rude or trying to throw me off. Obviously I wasn't a good fit for the role which is fine, but at the end of the interview he just stood up and walked out of the meeting room so I awkwardly found my own way out. A few days later I received an automated rejection email which just seemed careless after two separate days of on-site interviews? The office is cramped and messy - only worth mentioning considering their brand and product offering. In interviews I learned the CEO and founder had recently left the company which was a red flag obviously. Bad experience overall.
