I had a standard phone screening with a recruiter. I did not advance in the process beyond this call. In retrospect, I believe this was due to compensation. When they asked about my target comp, I mentioned how much I made in my previous role as a Senior Manager but noted I was flexible. The salary for this Director role was ~$40k less, which I said I was absolutely on board with as I recognized my previous salary was higher than normal for the position, but I suspect the recruiter felt I would ultimately turn down the role if offered due to the lower compensation.
