      Right of Way Agent Interview

      18 Apr 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Oakland, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at Caltrans (Oakland, CA) in Sept 2017

      Interview

The process is slow as hell in district 4 (Oakland) I took the exam and applied around July 2017. My interview was in September and I heard back from them in October. I needed a medical exam before I could accept the job offer. I was able to complete the exam and go through the hr process fairly quickly at that point, I stared the first full week of November. The interview itself was pretty straight forward. There was a written part (created a public information notice) and a math portion (basic math, calculator was provided). The interview was panel style and it lasted for around 30 minutes. Have some questions for the interviewers, they ALWAYS appreciate questions directed at them.

      Right of Way Agent Interview

      24 Jan 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Oakland, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Caltrans (Oakland, CA) in Dec 2023

      Interview

State application and a statement of qualifications. If you make it to the next step it is an in person interview plus a 30 min writing exercise prior to interview with a math question. The question is calculating the sqft of a house and the cost. The writing is responding to an email. My interview had 3 panelist who were friendly but seemed to be laughing at me the entirety of the interview. One the panelist almost spit out here water trying to hold back her laughter. I got interviewed and then dead silence until I asked. Typical bureaucratic BS. If you really don't care about ROW then look elsewhere. Preferably where the process isn't this long. Ive interviewed with other locations for the same jobs and it doesn't have this much bs. Update- They have reopened the position since they probably didn't like anyone they interviewed. For $4500 a month to work in Oakland; it really isn't worth it.
