      Site Reliability Engineer Interview

      7 Jun 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Seattle, WA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Canonical (Seattle, WA) in Apr 2022

      Interview

The recruiter provided me with a "written interview" with about 10 open ended questions, most about my experience with tools/processes, but some strangely focused on high school and/or college (this position was looking for 5 years of experience - why are you asking about high school?) I passed that with zero feedback other than "passed" I was then presented with an overview of their "psychometric evaluation" which was, frankly, bizarre. The first portion of the assessment was very focused on reading quickly, and manipulating 2-d shapes in space. The second half was a Meyers-Briggs-style personality test. I asked the recruiter what accommodations were available for people with disabilities taking these tests, and they indicated they could mark that accommodations had been requested, and that would be taken into consideration during evaluation. I withdrew my candidacy at this point. According to the recruiter, this is the entire process: Review of resume Written interview Standardised aptitude and personality assessment Cultural fit interview HR interview Technical assessment and interviews Hiring manager interview Senior leadership interview Panel decision Offer

      Interview

No bad comments at all, it was overall a good and fair interview process. The written interview is a little tedious though and it is honestly a very long process.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Canonical in Jan 2025

      Interview

The process was lengthy and disrespectful, spanning over two months, only to end in rejection. It began with resume screening, followed by a written test covering over 20 questions, ranging from high school knowledge to work experience. Next was a psychometric test to assess aptitude, and then a DevSkiller programming test with two coding questions. I was scheduled for three interviews focused on operational skills, Python skills, and general skills. Additionally, I was assigned a separate task to analyze and understand unfamiliar code involving Juju, Charms, and LXD.

      Question 1

You will be asked to walk us through the RabbitMQ server charm code and explain its implementation in regard to the clustering of individual RabbitMQ Juju units.
