I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Canva (Sydney) in Dec 2021
Interview
The interview experience started off well but quickly deteriorated. It was the typical interview stages with a screening, a portfolio review etc. They made sure to send out Canva-made brand packs about how working there is amazing and to be yourself.
Turns out there is a Canva way and the wrong way. They want to see how much your designs already look like Canva and are not tolerant of anything that looks non-Canva. That's a challenge because doing design at any other company is bound to produce work that does not look like Canva's design system.
After the portfolio review, the feedback provided centred on trivial issues, and conflicting feedback from the recruiter made things worse. Overall, it was a negative, confusing and thoroughly disappointing experience.
screening interview with HR > portfolio review with designers > design challenge presentation with manager/designer> final interview
all interviewers are friendly and open to listen. HR team is very helpful for preparing next interviews.
After submitting my application via email, I was given a schedule for a phone interview. Following this step, I ultimately received a rejection email. The entire process was challenging but provided a valuable learning experience.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Canva (Sydney) in Apr 2023
Interview
Spoke to the internal recruiter about the role. They sent a lot of information before hand about the role and the company along with a video presentation and other material to read. Be prepared for this interview.
