Question 1
My experience in the industry and questions to determine if I would be a good fit and if the company was right for me.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Capitol Wealth Strategies (Austin, TX) in Mar 2019
Interview
Roughly five interviews with the recruiting director, managing directors and CEO, each very friendly environment. They start with a phone call, followed by one on ones, and finally the CEO meeting. The CEO meeting was probably the most nerve racking but Scot turned out to be a very pleasant guy, not what you would expect from such a large finance company. So don't worry, if you have the drive to make a career out of this, the team will see that and most times give an opportunity.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Capitol Wealth Strategies in Jun 2018
Interview
Main Points: Poor Communication, Style over Substance
I informally met with one of the advisors to get a feel for the company, then had a very brief meeting with the big boss. Things seemed worth pursuing some more, so we scheduled some further conversations. Things were still very informal and nebulous, so when I was not told to bring a resume or anything I assumed I was just having an informal chat with some other stakeholders. My impressions were a bit too informal apparently, because I was refused a meeting due to wearing shorts.
The person I was supposed to be meting with agreed that we had gotten our signals crossed, and that he would get in touch with the office manager to reschedule. I also emailed her to ensure the process continued. After about 2 weeks of no response, I reached back out to her to see when we could reschedule. I almost immediately received an email informing me that they were moving forward with other candidates.
Capitol Wealth Strategies response

Capitol Wealth Strategies takes great pride in both our employee engagement and candidate experience. We provide an open door policy between our senior executives and the rest of the firm. This includes direct access to our CEO. While we sometimes dress business casual on Fridays, we remain a professional full service financial firm. Employees and potential employees are expected to dress accordingly.
We would like to apologize for the delayed response to your follow up communication as our Director of Onboarding and Licensing was on vacation during that time. I can assure you that this is not typical and that we are diligent in our communication with candidates. Best of luck with your future employment endeavors.
