I was asked to participate in a virtual Zoom interview and then an in-person interview at their Waterloo headquarters. The hiring manager participated in both. Oddly, the first interview included someone who would be a colleague, while the second interview involved one of their HR reps (normally this is reversed). For the second interview I was asked to essentially do homework for them and present ideas for how to improve their website.
Generally speaking the interview process was simple and straightforward, though I found the hiring manager's conduct quite off-putting. She repeatedly interrupted me or cut me off, even when I was presenting the ideas they asked me to prepare. She came across as extremely rude and after the first interview I was already very skeptical of what it would be like to work for her. However, I continued on to the second interview because the organization has some unique appeal and I wanted to validate my concerns. The second interview did confirm those worries and about halfway through I'd made the decision to not pursue the opportunity further.
I will note that the other people in both interviews were polite and welcoming and generally presented CIGI in a better light. However, the HR rep did ask me if AI was likely to make the very role for which I was interviewing, which sent massive red flags.
CIGI clearly prides itself on its very modern-looking office but this is hardly a reason to work for an organization, particularly in the age of WFH. The day I was there, it also felt cold and sterile, with most employees appearing a bit miserable and unwelcoming.
