I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Citrine Informatics (Chicago, IL) in Sept 2020
Interview
I have been through many interviews with other companies, including very drawn out ones for technical roles, and I have to say that none have impressed me as much as my experience with Citrine. I read through the reviews on glassdoor during the interview process, and I suspect that management has taken note of some prior feedback because my touchpoints with everyone were markedly different than many of the reviews here. Notably, all of my conversations with the hiring manager (one of the Vice Presidents) were incredibly well conducted. He offered extensive feedback on my performance and fit. While I became more excited about the prospect of working at Citrine over the interview process, from the beginning I thought the role might be a stretch based on my experience (extensive in an unrelated technology industry, but my educational background is in chemistry). If future roles are a better fit I would not hesitate to work with Citrine and the team there, or recommend friends and colleagues do the same.
Stepwise:
1. Initial outreach from company recruiter via LinkedIn.
2. Informal, conversational phone screen and bidirectional Q&A with recruiter.
3. Interview with hiring manager (VP).
4. Take-home challenge consisting of 4 multi-part questions that were highly relevant to the role and industry. It was apparent that a lot of thought was put into these.
5. Skills interview with two machine learning data scientists, each with PhDs in chemical or material science backgrounds. 1 hour with multiple questions and scenarios, some including reference and/or role play to the take home challenge questions.
6. Conversations with hiring manager around feedback, and my personal situation concerning competing offers, timing, and remaining interview steps.
7. Did not proceed further, however the next step was either an Onsite or 4 hours of remote interview with senior leadership in one session.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Tell me about a time when a project changed scope and how did you handle it?
I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Citrine Informatics in Jun 2021
Interview
There are several rounds of interviews. First, a quick screening with the recruiter. Next, a 30 minute with the hiring manager. After that, I was asked to do a project and discussed it with team members. The next round is two structured interviews with behavior questions. I enjoyed the low-stress conversation with senior management. I also need to provide three references.
I did the whole interview process virtually. And I like the overall interview process because it is clear what to expect in the next round. The scheduling is also convenient. On the other hand, the process is quite long with multiple rounds of interviews. But I did have the chance to meet more people and had a sense of the working culture.

Question 1
Behavior questions like: tell me about a project you worked on, tell me about a challenge you successfully overcame, career goals, etc. are all fair game.
I applied through university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Citrine Informatics (Toronto, ON) in Jun 2021
Interview
It was a fair test of potential technical skills as well as requisite soft skills. The detailed process entails a systematically designed line of questioning to extract best answers and help candidate succeed.
