I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at City Year (New York, NY) in Oct 2014
Interview
The online application process began on the 30th of September. I filed my application and was responded to with a Selections interview immediately afterwards within 3 days. Typically a screening interview is meant to take place, but I was skipped over for this part of the process for whatever reason. Afterwards there was a selections interview, which can be done either over the phone or in person. I did mine in person. The interviewer was friendly but was obviously reading questions off of a sheet, which stifled much of the initial conversation. Once the main part of the interview was over we were able to discuss parts of the program more candidly. The questions section lasted longer than the actual interview for me.

Question 1
What's something that you've been a part of that's bigger than yourself and how have you reflected on your personal growth through the committment over time.
Very simple. Quick virtual interview and pretty simple questions. Research their values and what not and you should be good to go. As far as I remember it was a single interview and decision is relatively soon after that.
Really friendly and welcoming. Try to make it as comfortable as possible and share about the work they do. They want to ensure applicants are making the right decisions and that they assess the values.

Done over zoom and not an overly long process interviews are usually conducted by the IM for a school in the city you are applying for but if you have a pulse you should be fine
