      Application

I applied through university. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Cleveland State (Cleveland, OH) in May 2017

      Interview

I actually did not interview at all, which was amazing. I was offered this package after being accepted into my program. My package provides a $1,300 stipend and pays for 10 Fall credit hours, 9 Spring credit hours. As far as I know, other students have not been required to undergo interviews for graduate assistant positions either, merely applied with their resume during their application process for the graduate program of their choice. I am in the Political Science department.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

On my application for graduate school, I was asked to provide my five-year goals, what I intended to do with the degree, and how my educational and professional background made me suitable for the program.

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Cleveland State (Cleveland, OH) in Aug 2021

      Interview

      1. Application Submission: - The process often starts with submitting an application through the university's online application portal. Candidates are usually required to provide a resume or curriculum vitae (CV), a cover letter, and any other requested documents. 2. Screening and Shortlisting: - The university's human resources department or the department offering the GA position reviews the applications and shortlists candidates who meet the basic qualifications. 3. Initial Interview (Video): - Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an initial interview, which is often conducted over the phone or via video conferencing. This interview typically includes questions about the candidate's background, qualifications, and their interest in the GA role. It may also involve discussing the candidate's availability, as GAs are often students pursuing their graduate degrees. 4. Technical/Role-Specific Interview: - Depending on the nature of the GA position, candidates may be required to participate in a technical or role-specific interview. For example, if the GA role involves research, candidates may be asked about their research experience and interests. If it's a teaching assistant role, candidates might discuss teaching methods and strategies. 5. Campus Interview (In-Person): - Some universities conduct on-campus interviews, especially for positions that involve teaching or research. During this stage, candidates may meet with faculty members, potential supervisors, and other relevant university staff. They might be asked to give a teaching demonstration, present their research, or discuss how they would contribute to the department. 6. Assessment or Testing: - For certain GA positions, candidates may be required to complete assessments or tests related to their field of study. This could include subject-specific exams, writing samples, or skills assessments. 7. Reference Checks: - Universities often conduct reference checks to verify the candidate's qualifications and suitability for the role. Candidates should have their references prepared to provide information about their background and capabilities. 8. Final Interview: - In some cases, there may be a final interview with senior university officials or administrators. This interview could focus on the candidate's alignment with the university's values and objectives. 9. Offer of Employment: - Once the interview process is complete, the university extends a formal offer of employment to the selected candidate. This offer includes details about the role, salary, benefits, and other terms and conditions of employment. 10. Acceptance and Onboarding: - Upon accepting the offer, the candidate proceeds with the university's onboarding process, which may include completing HR paperwork, attending orientation, and familiarizing themselves with university policies and procedures.

      Interview

Applied online and took 3 days for final decision. Interview was easy and asked only general and technical questions. I would say interviewer were very supportive; they will try to know your willingness to learn new things and how you will implement it in real world.
