I interviewed with Clustr for SDET role recently. I have always worked in product based companies and interviewed more than 100 candidates myself. Based on my experience, i can clearly say that they have a bad interview process.
- Firstly, they switched off their video on skype call saying bad connectivity. Wow!!! bad internet in software company.
- There were 2 interviewers and one of them was software developer. All question were asked by him and other interviewer who is tester remained quite. Is it not true that developers don't want good QA to join their teams.
- In my introduction, i told them about my journey so far and all the work i did, all positions, all tech stack but it seemed they were not listening. I was again asked the same questions which i already answered during my intro.
- I mentioned in my resume that i am self-taught developer and did full stack development also using python-flask. While HR told me that they are looking for people with development experience, the interviewer seemed to be not interested at all in my development work. I even shared the link of my website with 1 interviewer on linkedin 4 days before my interview happened, but he/she did'nt even login to my website.
- They are hiring for automation and they don't have a coding round or automation assignment round. Good companies don't take interview before these rounds.
- While most product based companies follow a strict "no hiring from service companies", here you will find most of the experienced people from service based companies like infosys.
- While HR told me that position is for team lead where i would be leading 2-3 QA, interviewer told me that position is for IC role.
- Only questions asked were - intro, daily routine, an example of recent api project and benchmark criteria about performance testing.
- Overall, i think this a product based company which completely operates in service based mode. Clustr as a product seems really good, but they should do some retrospective on their hiring process.
