So this long but worth a read...
Interview was in the Florida Keys
I lived there the last 6 years but just recently moved. They knew I was driving 5 hours for this..
Recruiter said “I’ll let the TEAM know you’ll be commuting. It’s at 2pm, DRESS PROFESSIONALLY, arrive early, drive up to the gate and show the security guard a photo ID, let him know you’re there to interview with 3 members of the hiring team’
Those points are important because...
I Arrived at 1:40pm -
No security guard at the entrance gate.
I hit the buzzer (5x within 5 min), no answer.
Called the recruiter, he doesn’t answer.
Checked my email - interview still confirmed..
Called again, no one answers.
Called the warehouse - no answer.
Drove around the warehouse - only 1 entrance/exit
Head back to the gate - ring the buzzer again, no one answers.
It’s now 2:09pm - I’m confused & frustrated as I’ve been trying to get into the facility for nearly 30 minutes after a 5 hour drive.
By luck - an employee walked out of the warehouse to his car, he gets in, drove to gate where I’ve been waiting - the gate opens, he leaves, FINALLY I can enter.
I park, run up to the building, entered and was greeted by... no one... walked around the office area, no sign of life. I walked around the building & entered the warehouse area and finally met Yordi.
He made a condescending comment on my suit - ‘nice suit, doesn’t look like you belong in the Keys’ (very unprofessional thing to say to someone who’s interviewing for a job... & also to someone who lived in the Keys the past 6 years)
He made small talk, he wasn’t ready for the interview, he apologized for running late, for not having a working buzzer, for not having staff at the entrance, etc. - He tells me he just moved to Keys about 7 months ago... which made the suit comment even more odd. Like I get it bud, you’ve embraced the FL Keys lifestyle...
Anyway
We begin around 230pm - he was the only person I met with face to face. No team of 3 were present.
HR was on the phone.
The mysterious ‘third team member’ wasn’t even mentioned to me..
Typical interview - all questions based on STAR process; situation, task, action, results.
It actually seemed to go great. At the end he told me ‘finding a candidate with your experience & education in the Keys is like finding a needle in a haystack’ - made me feel good - I do have 9 years of management experience, 5 years in sales & a MBA.
He said ‘we’d like to fill the position by March, we’ll follow up next week’ - gave me his cell #.
I reached out the following week, he replied ‘we’re still interested, would like to schedule a 2nd interview with a peer of mine - it would be up in west palm, I’ll get back to you’
Sounds great..
He didn’t get back to me that week
The following week, the employee who referred me texted me on a Wednesday, ‘I heard they are offering someone the position, is it you?!?’
I’m thinking no - I’m hoping they would at least let me know they are going with someone else...
But I don’t get a call or email..
So I texted him the very next day & he said ‘2nd interview will be scheduled by Friday’
Hmmm...
At this point I’m mind boggled. Friday is tomorrow, but apparently they offered the job to someone.. But they want to schedule a 2nd interview with me..
Welp - Friday comes and goes - nothing. No call no email no follow up.
Monday comes & I say ‘how’s the process coming along with the 2nd interviews’
- finally, 2 days later, he tells me ‘we’re going with an internal candidate’
At this point I’m relived. I’m not even upset I wasn’t offered the position.
Yes I’d love the opportunity to move back to the keys but definitely not with this company. The entire process was completely unprofessional and completely unorganized. A total waste of time.
I would recommend - Do not apply to this company. If you do, don’t dress professionally!
