Online Assessments (Written Test) The first step is a series of online, elimination-based assessments that evaluate core skills. The sequence and exact number of sections may vary, but they generally cover: a. Communication Assessment (Round 1) Focus: Assesses proficiency in the English language (reading, writing, and listening/speaking). Format: Typically includes sections like Reading Sentences, Repeating Sentences, Jumbled Sentences, and Story Telling. This round may be used to filter candidates before the technical evaluations. b. Aptitude Assessment (Part of Round 2) Focus: Tests fundamental logical and quantitative skills. Sections: Numerical Ability: Quantitative topics like arithmetic, algebra, and data interpretation. Reasoning Ability: Logical deduction, puzzles, and pattern recognition. Verbal Ability: Grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. c. Technical Assessment (Part of Round 2) Focus: Evaluates core technical knowledge and problem-solving abilities. Format: This round typically involves Coding Questions and Technical MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions). Coding: Usually involves 2-4 questions ranging from easy to medium difficulty (e.g., array manipulations, string reversal, Fibonacci series). Technical MCQs: Questions on Computer Science fundamentals like OOPs, DBMS, Operating Systems, and basics of web technologies (HTML/CSS) or a specific programming language (Java/Python). Skill Clusters: Candidates often choose a preferred skill cluster (e.g., Java & ANSI SQL or Python & ANSI SQL), and the assessment focuses on the selected cluster. 2. Interview Rounds Candidates who clear the online assessments are invited for interviews, which are often conducted in two parts: a. Technical Interview (TI) Duration: Typically 25-45 minutes. Focus: Deep dive into the technical knowledge mentioned in the resume and assessed in the online test. Key Topics: Projects: Detailed discussion on academic or personal projects, including the technologies used, challenges faced, and your specific contributions. Programming Concepts: Detailed questions on Object-Oriented Programming (OOPs) principles (Inheritance, Polymorphism, Abstraction, Encapsulation) and their practical application. Core CS Subjects: Questions on DBMS (SQL queries, Joins, Normalization, ACID properties), Data Structures & Algorithms (DSA) (Arrays, Linked Lists, Sorting/Searching), and Operating Systems (Kernel, Processes, Threads). Live Coding/Debugging: You might be asked to write simple code or SQL queries on the spot or debug a given snippet. b. HR/Behavioral Interview Duration: Typically shorter, around 10-15 minutes. Focus: Assesses behavioral fit, cultural alignment, and readiness for the corporate environment. Key Questions: Self-Introduction: A concise overview of your background, skills, and projects. Motivation: "Why do you want to join Cognizant?" "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" Behavioral/Situational: Questions on teamwork, handling pressure, time management, and conflicts (often using the STAR method). Logistics: Confirmation of willingness to relocate and work in various shifts. The difficulty for the GenC profile is generally considered moderate, aiming to assess foundational technical knowledge and strong learning potential in fresh graduates.
