      Java Developer Interview

      5 Aug 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Hyderābād
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Cognizant (Hyderābād) in Aug 2014

      Interview

I have attended java scheduled interview held at Cognizant , DLF, Gachibowli Hyderabad for the position of java developer . I have around 4.8 years of exp in core java, EJB, struts , hibernate , JSF, web services. The interview process includes three rounds 1)1st Round - Technical face-face. 2)2nd Round -Technical face-face. 3)HR Round. 1st Round:(Technical face-face) ---------------- A lady took my interview for the 1st round. Asked basics of java like. 1. What is encapsulation, abstraction, inheritance. 2. Why java is platform independent. 3. What are the different types of collections I have used in my project 4. Diff between hash map and hash table 5. struts work flow. 6. project architecture 7. Ejb 2 vs Ejb 3. 8. java 1.5 and 1.6 features. 9. Threads concepts 10. abstract factory , factory , singleton design pattern. I gave perfect answers for all the questions and Im really sure I will clear the 1st round. The interview took about 45 minutes. The interviewer gave feedback that Iam very strong in the technical skills and informed to wait for 5 minutes. 10 minutes Later HR informed that I have cleared the first interview and took me to another person for 2nd Round. 2nd Round:(Technical face-face) --------------- The Interviewer took about 30 minutes for F-F technical interview. This round is not at all interesting , even 1st round looks better. I bet that the person who took my interview doesn't know few basics concepts in java (serialization, usage of static) 1.Tell me about yourself. 2. what are the oops concepts. 3. what are the exceptional handling. 4. JSF life cycle. 5. struts life cycle. Till that I have cleared all answers perfectly. Now the interview started asking stupid questions,of-course I gave correct answers for those. But the interviewer says my answers are wrong. 1. What is the process to make the object serialize? ans: Explained the process . 2.How to prevent the variable from serialization? ans: I told make the variable as transient. .Before serializing lets suppose the value of transient variable of type integer is 10 , then after de-serializing the object , what would be the value for the transient variable ? ans: As transient variable is not serialized, and after de-serializing the transient value will have the default initialization i.e. 0 . I : zero. He: No , its its wrong. I: No I'm sure its zero. He: No, its not correct. I: what is the correct answer. He:it still has the value as 10 even after de-serializing. I: why??Then what is the point of having transient then He:Even then it will have the value 10 I think you might have not aware of the this scenario. I: laughing internally , surprising , what kind of java developer is he. He asked few other java questions , Even though I gave correct answers. He told its wrong. I realized that this guy isn't eligible to take up my interview. Like this the interview sent with silly questions. I'm not happy at all for being interviewed by a illiterate java guy. Interview ended and asked me how was the interview. I smiled and told its fine. I was told to wait for 10 minutes. After 30 Minutes HR came and informed to leave for the day . That's how the interview ended. On August 5th , I got mail from Cognizant stating I have not selected for the interview. My Experience: I felt very happy for not selected for Cognizant , at the same time I'm very disappointed with Cognizant for the way they took interview. How could company like Cognizant have such a cheap/illiterate java guy for taking up the interviews. Before attending interview with cognizant I have attended several other interviews (believe me those interviews are very touch to crack , I did so much of hard work to grab the offers from IT biggies). I can say this is the worst interview I have faced in my life. Recommendation to Cognizant : Please use quality, technically sound experienced staff for hiring resources. It gives bad impression/reputation if you maintain in-experienced recruiting staff. Recommendation to candidates: Don't feel bad for not selecting with Cognizant interview. Think as if the company don't deserve talented guys like you.
