Applied online and received an email from recruiter the next day. Set up a standard 30-minute phone screening interview. Had to reschedule interview at the last minute because of an issue on his end. Was not a big deal, he was very nice and apologetic about it. I felt like the recruiter had a good handle on what the basic qualifications of the role were and sold the company well. He had another HR representative schedule an interview with the hiring manager.
Hiring manager was nice, and the interview felt more like a conversation. He was understanding and asked general questions about my favorite projects and the process that I go through when working on a model. It did not feel like he was grilling me at all, and genuinely seemed interested in my experiences and skills. There were a couple things I said that I could not answer, and told him honestly that I didn't know. He seemed understanding, but I'm sure my lack of knowledge and experience didn't help me land the position.
I followed up a little over a week later, and he responded swiftly that he would get back to me soon with an update. I got a rejection email after the weekend. He was polite and informed me that he told the recruiter to consider me for future positions.
