      Interview

This employer posted their job posting on Craigslist. I reached out to them and they scheduled an interview with me where most of the call was an older man selling me on how extravagant the companies board members and connections were and name dropping lots of rich famous people which I thought was a little overboard especially since I was just looking for an entry level position and also noting that the position was posted on craigslist so I was expecting something modest. After the initial screen call which like I said was mostly the older gentlemen talking and selling me on the company he ended the call saying to reconnect next week. We had a call the following week where he again talked about the position and asked me a couple questions but it was again mostly just the man talking about the company as if to keep me on the line but not make any moves. Finally he contacted me again about a week later and we talked loosely about salary which I then learned was not too impressive, and the older gentlemen said that they are not able to provide any health benefits for this full time in office position, yet continued to talk about how established the company is and how the board members are rich and famous which was really giving me red flags. . He ended up giving me a skill assessment task which I completed over the weekend and followed up. He then set up an interview with some younger designers that would be my co-workers and they really picked my work apart, so much so, that it began to appear they were under the impression I was applying for a different role so I had to clarify which role I was under the impression this was for. Toward the end of the interview the two designers left the call early and I felt so bombarded with heavy criticism and absolutely zero positivity that I decided to acknowledge to the older gentlemen "that didn't go well.. " and he basically said " what are you going to do, you tried" .. with that said, after the interview I was so shocked at how critical they were of my work because as a designer of many years I have a reasonable understanding of my talent and all of the other red flags, things really didn't feel right so I decided not even to follow up. The story gets even better as about a month or two passed and they then reach out to me asking if I was interested to come back for another interview. I already had found a job thankfully. Past employees said it was a reasonable place to get your foot in the door of the industry but I'd be careful based on my own experience.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They asked about previous job experience, nothing too specific and it seemed that the portfolio was the main attraction with the assessment being their final gauge. I suspect they are heavy to criticize in order to validate their low income offerings with no benefits.
