      Staff Product Designer Interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Contentsquare in Jun 2024

      Interview

A recruiter reached out to me re: a Staff PD role at Contentsquare with a salary range of $200-250k. I was excited for this opportunity as I have been at the Senior level for a few years now and ready for this next step in my career, I also have a lot of experience in this landscape. I went through the multiple rounds of interviews (recruiter, hiring manager, portfolio review w/ a panel, multiple 1:1s) with positive feedback at every step. Immediately after my last round, I received a call from one of their recruiters who was covering for my point person while she was OOO and he verbally communicated that the team was excited to make me an offer and wanted to know what salary I would need to expect. The following day, it was requested that I have another 1:1 with their head of design, which was to communicate that the offer was now for a Senior Product Designer role at the low end of the salary range, so it would be less than I currently make. I felt blindsighted and disappointed as I was very clear with my initial conversations with the recruiter of what title and salary I was looking for. If I had known it was a Senior role at that salary range, I would have not moved forward with the multiple rounds of interviews and wasted their time and mine. I ultimately decided to not accept the offer. While the recruiters and individual team members were nice along the way, they should have clear alignment on a role before reaching out to candidates. It sounds like there is also a lot of tension given the acquisitions of Heap and Hotjar so perhaps I've dodged a bullet.

Thank you for your feedback. The decision to adjust the level was made at the conclusion of the process. Unfortunately, based on our discussions, a few key elements and experiences were lacking for a Staff position. However, we were highly impressed by our interactions with you and saw great potential in your application, which is why we were still eager to extend an offer. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and will ensure your feedback drives further improvement in our processes. We genuinely hope that you will remain interested in Contentsquare in the future, as we greatly valued our discussions and your profile.
