I applied online. I interviewed at Continuum Care Hospice (Sarasota, FL) in Feb 2022
Interview
My interview with the hiring manager told me everything I needed to know about the culture with this organization. Though organization claims on their website that it is patient and family centric, it is not. Manager made it clear it was about numbers.
She assumed the population of Sarasota is the same as elsewhere. Chaplains are expected to make visits with every patient/family admitted to their program EVEN if they decline chaplain services. Also, she became continuous and argumentative with me during the interview as I explained my agency's approach and shared my experiences, which by the way, I have more than nine years of employment with hospice with excellent evaluations with both agencies I have worked for. She automatically judged my work and agency's marketing approach as insufficient because we respect each patient/family's decision regarding chaplain services. I asked her directly the chaplain's expectation of servicing patient/family when they tell the calling chaplain they are not interested in the service. She responded that they must keep calling until the patient/family change their minds. This approach is badgering for patients/families because this company knows that number of visits equates with revenue for them. So, it pushes it employees to get in the home as much as possible. I was polite and did not argue back with her, and sent her note thanking her for the interview afterward. I have had interviews with other agencies since and found their approach and culture similar to my experiences. Continuum was the only outlier in my experience interviewing with hospice agencies.
