      Anonymous Interview

      29 May 2018

      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at DISH (New York, NY) in May 2018

      Interview

Received an email about setting up a screening call 4 weeks after I had applied. Took the screening call, it went well. I then had to take a questionnaire that had math, reading, and internet savvy questions. It was fairly easy. I was then set up with a phone interview with the hiring manager, then another interview with the senior engineer. I flew out for a 3rd interview, where I was hammered with questions for 3 hours. I had to take two more tests on the computer before the interviews. It went well overall, but it was exhausting talking to five different people throughout the morning. I got a positive impression overall, but when I asked some of the employees how they liked it, I didn’t really get a good response. I’m happy they shared some info with me because I would have been blindsided. Their information was detrimental to me accepting the offer or not, so I’m happy I asked what their view of the company was. These are older career men who have been in the industry 30+ years, so it was very important to have their insight. They have had other jobs that they could compare to, so their answers meant a lot to me. I think Dish is a good company overall but the management style isn’t for me. The CEO sounds cheap which is kind of ridiculous from a fortune 200 company. When you have that much annual revenue you should reward your employees when you assume their normal work week is 46-50+ hours a week. Also, I was told if you go on business meetings with 3-4 people, you are expected to share a hotel room AND bed with your coworkers. This kind of caught me off guard. I feel like sharing a bed is a personal line that I do not want to cross with a coworker, and makes me uncomfortable. Sharing a room is one thing but a bed isn’t something I’m okay with. My position requires traveling too so this was something I had to consider.

      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I interviewed at DISH (Columbus, OH)

      Interview

I was contacted by a recruiter and had a 20 minute phone interview with her. I then had to take an online IQ test. Once I passed, I had an in person interview with the person I’d be working closely with. Before that interview however, I had to take ANOTHER IQ test and also a Wonderlic test at the office which took about an hour to complete both. I received a rejection email 2 months later. I don’t know why it was necessary to take so many tests that had nothing to do with the position. I’ve interviewed at several other places for a similar job and did not have to take any tests.

      Question 1

The interview was more like a “get to know you” conversation.

The interview process is ridiculous, they need people so bad they will hire anyone, if you need a job really bad, go for it, you are in...Just smile, tell them you will work hard and be dedicated and work any hour available.
