      Digital Marketing Manager Interview

      13 Aug 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Englewood, CO
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at DISH (Englewood, CO) in Jul 2013

      Interview

I applied online at the Dish Network website. Within two weeks, I had received a call from HR to gain more info from me. This was followed up by three more phone interviews with two other digital managers, and an online assessment that I had to take. Each call was 30 minutes to 1 hour long. In between those were check-in calls with the HR rep. After going through all of the phone interviews, I was flown out for an in-person interview where I met with five people, two of the people were the digital managers who I spoke to on the phone. I was there all day, and had back to back interviews. In between the interviews, I had to take two additional online assessments. The people I met, and the company itself seemed like a very busy, but positive place to be. Everyone seemed to know each other, and really like each other. The campus is gorgeous, and it truly seems like a great place to work. The entire interview process took about two months to get through.Throughout the entire process, Dish Network was very communicative with me. I had constant email or phone check-ins. Since my in-person interview, I have not heard from anyone at Dish Network. I have followed up via phone and email at least twice a week for three weeks, and nothing, Interviewing is not an easy process for the company, or for the person interviewing for the job. It takes a lot of time and effort from both parties, and you would think that after all that time invested in speaking to a person, that they would have the decency to let you know whether you were selected for the job or not. Apparently Dish Network does not work this way. I am really disappointed in Dish Network for not even reaching out to let me know what the outcome was of my interview.

      Interview questions [3]

      Question 1

Why digital? - This was the most unexpected question simply because it could be answered very differently depending on what the person was really trying to get at.

      Question 2

Also, between media planning and social/web, which one interests you most? Apparently I was interviewing for a BM position that could be on either of these teams. Based off of my experience, I chose the one that I felt I could offer the most to the team. I was asked this question from every person, and every time, I felt as if I answered in incorrectly. Like they wanted me to choose the other one.

      Question 3

This one wasn't a question, but just odd. I had to take an online assessment in which you are given 12 minutes to answer 50 critical thinking questions. I was told that although the screen says, answer as many you can, I should really try to get through all 50 questions. I answered 23 questions. I don't know how people can get through all 50 as many of the questions required some thought. It was a little nerve racking.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at DISH (Englewood, CO) in Sept 2013

      Interview

I was an out-of-state interviewee, so there were two phone interviews before they flew me to their HQs in Colorado. Everything leading up to the on-site interviews was fine. Seemed like a tight-run ship and I spoke with some good people. Flight out, car rental, and hotel was a smooth process as well. Everything post interview was a disaster on Dish's part. First off, their internal recruiter never got back to me even though she said she'd reach out either way. Second, they didn't reimburse me for some minor travel expenses even though she said she would (about $85 from food, gas, etc.). To make things worse, after not hearing from them for over a month, the exact same recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn and sent me a job opportunity for the exact same position! Haha, so unorganized and pathetic. These guys don't treat their own employees well, why would they treat an outsider any better? Good riddance.
