      Software Developer Interview

      15 Sept 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Montreal, QC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at DRW (Montreal, QC) in Jun 2014

      Interview

The interview with Vigilant Global went on for weeks. It is the most time consuming and lengthy interviews I have ever attended. Since I applied within a week I got a response. Week 1: Approximately 45 minutes telephone HR interview and scheduled a onsite interview for the next week. Week 2: About 1 hr 30 minutes interview with the boss of the company and basic technical questions in networking. I was told that there will be 1 or 2 more rounds of interview. He showed the entire office to me and introduced me to the team I might be working with. Week 3: 2 hr test in programming, networking, hardware, C++, brain teaser, os etc. Followed by 1 hr 30 minutes of discussion with team lead and HR about my previous experience etc. I was told that I also have a take home programming test along with technical interview and a on spot programming test. Week 4: Take home programming task to write a code for a problem with a time limit of 5 days. It is a decently time consuming problem and they expect artefact such as class diagram, tests etc along with it to evaluate. Week 5: 2 hr 30 minutes of intensive technical interview in c++, algorithms, networking, hardware, os etc. Every member of the team had different time slot for asking question in the interview. Followed by 2 hrs of writing code for a problem in a computer. It is almost impossible to complete the entire task just do as much as you can. Week 6: The HR called and told that next week on Tuesday I will know my results. Week 7: No response from the HR. I wrote email requesting my result. No reply. Week 8: No response from the HR and no reply for my email. Week 9: No response from the HR and no reply for my email. I gave a call to the HR and came to know that he was in a vacation. HR did not care to tell me two weeks ago that I might get the results after 2 weeks. After 2 day HR gave a call and told they decide to proceed with the other candidate. Advice to the recruitment team: The process of giving result about the interview was handled very poorly. Please keep up with your words. If you say you will get back some day, get back with results on time. Please inform candidates about the entire interview process well ahead. Please don't keep on adding new interview steps every week. Have some little concern for the interview candidates who go through such a long interview process. Different companied have different interview process. Some have short and some have long process. I am giving a bad experience for the interview just the way they handled to give me the result.

Leetcode like question with follow ups on c++ concepts like virtual memory, address space, etc. Coding everything from scratch and there’re also weird concepts like function pointer. Question was not too hard but need to remember concepts and syntax clearly

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at DRW (London, England) in Aug 2025

      Interview

Did a set of interviews in summer 25. The interviews were not that difficult, mostly problems you'll face in real life. The interviewers themselves were mostly nice, although a couple seemed like they didn't care, not very involved in the process. Got rejected due to 2 sections having "mixed signals": one generic "not deep enough", the other didn't like the approach to solving a problem (it was solved on time anyway). Funnily enough, got praised for using the same approach in other section. Mixed signals also came from the people who wouldn't have been on the same team. It would be nice if interviewers were aligned on evaluation criteria, otherwise it becomes a guessing game. Other that that it was a positive experience and the rejection was delivered by phone, not a generic email.

      Question 1

Some very down-to-earth problem on coding section, pleasantly surprised. Unfamiliar algo problem, more like medium-hard. And a data modelling exercise.
