I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at DataGPT (Montreal, QC) in Mar 2023
Interview
Applied via LinkedIn. The interview process had the following steps:
1. Screening call via google meet, a nice presentation about the company, some questions about my background, and why I want to work for the company.
2. I received a link to take some online timed programming challenges. 3 of them. 1 React, 1 JavaScript DOM manipulation, and the other one I don't remember now. These were average difficulty and marked immediately, similar to how HackerRank does it. Luckily I scored 100/100.
3. An interview with a senior management person asking about my background, my current role, how I deal with work challenges, examples, etc. I asked some questions about the company and explained why I found the company and the role a good match.
4. A full-stack Node.js/React.js take-home assignment to do in 3 days.
5. I was informed the team liked my work and they would like to discuss and review it more in a meeting.
6. A two-person panel interview to discuss my code, my thoughts about testing, teamwork, etc. Once again asked me to describe a challenging task that I have done in my current role.
7. Silence, no feedback, not even an email that I didn't pass the final interview. I did send an email thanking the interviewers and the HR, however no response.
I was very disappointed because I spent so much effort and energy on the long interview process. The interview process lasted almost two months. In the end, I at least deserve to receive some communication be it a rejection or that the company plans have changed and they no longer want to hire. Now, I will probably never know if I was technically weak or just not a good fit or the company decided not to hire anyone.
