      Technical Support Engineer Interview

      31 Oct 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Datadog in Sept 2023

      Interview

As mentioned by many, the interview is very much focused on your knowledge of Datadog. I applied via LinkedIn and the whole process went quite fast. - HR interview: 30 minutes - Hiring Manager interview: 30-45 minutes. The manager is basically trying to understand if you are a good cultural fit for the team. Not too much focus on the technical questions. - Take-home test: 2 hours. This is the first step where your datadog knowledge is tested. Their documents on the website are quite helpful, but tbh if someone has not read those documents a day before, there is no way they can clear this round. There were questions about debugging the datadog agent, simple SQL query, a quick python code (which I mostly googled as I'm not a coder) and docker questions. - On-site interview: I was then called for an on-site interview for 3 rounds. In the technical round, one person will watch you while the other will give you troubleshooting problems. I was told by the recruiter to always speak what I am thinking and that's exactly what I did. They had their datadog agent with multiple issues and were looking to fix those. They would forward you the documents to go through when you reach the interview location and use those during the interview. I was able to resolve 4 issues, but it looks like they had 6 in total. After the complete process, I was not offered the position. I do feel the whole interview process was about judging me on the technical skills that I can use specifically for Datadog issues. There were no generic industry questions and every answer was datadog-related. During the senior manager interview, I was that we expect people to be in the office 3 times a day which might increase later. We also expect employees to be in the office for at least 8 hours a day. When asked, what if I have a family emergency, I was told that datadog is not equipped to handle such situations as of now. This was a very weird response for me. Good luck!
