I dropped off an application and was immediately whisked to the back room for an interview. The manager spoke with me while reading my application. It felt quite informal and a bit uncomfortable with all of the silences. I expressed an interest in alterations, so she called back the manager of that department. The alterations manager looked me up and down judgmentally and said she would try to see if she had any space for me. They decided to put me at the welcome desk and see what I could do. I spent some time with some customers, and they seemed to be impressed. I was offered a job right then and there. I accepted, under the condition that it was understood that I needed a week away for a planned and paid for vacation in a month's time. I reminded them again when I was in for my first shift. When the time came, the manager claimed that I told no-one about it. She said I would not have been hired if that was previously brought up.
