Took a written & a math test. Then the Level 5 welder took me to give me the weld test. The weld test was a standard 3G with a backing strip. I asked the "5" for run-off tabs, he honestly responded, "what's that?"(RED FLAG) Finished the weld test, with no inclusions and a in-tolerance cap. Went upstairs to do my interview with the welding supervisor.
I have never in my career have had an interview for a position where the welding supervisor legitimately talked trash about his workers, he talked about himself more than talked about the position I was applying for (RED FLAG)
He made sure I knew that he's a welder too, the best the company had, that this is the only welding job he's ever worked.
My last question is what really concerned me.
I asked if I get chosen for the position, when can I take my 4G to qualify me for overhead, and I was told the AWS recognizes my 3G test for all positions. (uh no?)
If you are an experienced welder, stay clear of this place, trust this review.
I accepted solely for the money and benefits, but it's not even worth it. I should have dragged up and declined based on what happened in my interview. Arrogance and nepotism is what fuels this department.
