Interview
I had an onsite interview for the MERN Stack Developer role. The interview was originally scheduled for 1 hour but unexpectedly extended to almost 1 hour 45 minutes, causing me to miss my bus, which was inconvenient.
The first part of the interview was primarily focused on backend development, where I was able to answer most of the questions confidently. However, after the first interviewer left, another person stepped in who clearly seemed unprepared and reluctant to conduct the interview.
What felt unprofessional was that the second interviewer asked several repeated questions that were already covered by the first interviewer. I politely expressed my disapproval of this redundant questioning, suggesting that both interviewers could have coordinated better and conducted the session together. After my suggestion, the second interviewer's behavior changed, and he showed disinterest, even saying, “If you don’t want to answer, it’s fine,” which felt dismissive and unprofessional.
Another disappointing part was the lack of post-interview communication. Before the interview, the HR was very prompt and responsive. But after the interview, there was complete silence, no feedback, no updates, and not even a courtesy rejection email. I had to follow up myself and still got no response.
I would suggest to respect candidates' time and effort. Properly coordinate interviewers to avoid redundancy and ensure a smooth experience. Most importantly, always provide feedback or closure, whether the candidate is selected or not. Ghosting candidates damages the company's reputation in the long run.
