I have never been through an interview process that felt like such a poor use of my time or one where there seemed to be so little regard for the overall candidate experience.
After multiple video interviews, including with members of the senior leadership team, I left with the impression that the role was not yet clearly defined and that there wasn’t a consistent understanding of the skills, experience, or profile they were looking for.
The hiring manager was new to the company and seemed genuinely kind, but my overall experience with the recruiting process was disappointing. After being told I was a finalist, there were long stretches with no communication regarding next steps despite my being responsive and actively navigating a time-sensitive job search. After I reached out to the hiring manager because I had not heard from the recruiter, I later received a super brief phone call informing me that I had not been selected.
Advice to Digital Realty: Candidates invest significant time preparing for interviews, and they deserve transparency, timely communication, and respect for their time. I would recommend ensuring roles are clearly defined before beginning an extensive interview process and providing candidates with consistent updates throughout the process, even if the final decision is ultimately not to move forward.
In my experience, it felt like the process was a “kick the tires” and “see what’s on the market” approach which I (and many others) find highly unprofessional and a waste of time.
