I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Discover Melody (New York, NY) in Feb 2017
Interview
It went well. Got second interview. But after that, no response, as if he has disappeared from the face of the Earth. Attempted to reach out to them to no avail.
I applied online. I interviewed at Discover Melody (New York, NY) in Sept 2017
Interview
It was an online interview through a third party video conferencing app.
The interview seemed ok at first, but beacme somewhat peculiar. The interviewer couldn't answer several basic questions about their company such as:
- "Who is the owner/founder?"
- "What is your company's goal?"
- "Why is an American music lesson company based in NYC focusing solely on Chinese students in China who speak little to no english?"
- "Why do you not require at least some fluency in a second language (for either party, student or teacher) if none of the students can speak English? Do you have a specific method to overcome this difficulty?"
Their lack of information was surprising and concerning since they are a self-described start-up company with only a few employees. You'd think they'd have a clearer concept of their company and would know who the very few people in it are, especially their supervisors/directors.
Also it became very obvious that there was someone else in the room with the interviewer who was off-screen & didn't want their presence known, but was clearly communicating with the interviewer. Very odd.
The interviewer said I was great & she would be sending me an offer with paperwork to fill out by that Friday, but never did. It's been almost 2 weeks and my follow-ups/inquiries have not been answered.
Judging from the interview and lack of professional follow through, it could very likely be a scam or front company. Their website and list of teachers on it seems vague and contrived.
