      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Distribusion (Germany) in Sept 2025

      Interview

As usual interview with HR, then a technical questions round. Then there is a system design interview. Afterwards you meet with VP of engineering and have a technical chat. Finally you meet with the CPO and then meet with the team.

      Question 1

Old school technical questions such as: - CAP theorem - Inner vs outer join - Which REST requests are idempotent - Code review for a process that makes requests in a for loop

      Application

      I interviewed at Distribusion (Berlin)

      Interview

A weird technical interview. First they ask you random abstract questions more or less from the tech area, like how to best choose a database, without any context, then they ask you to review a bit of code that can be improved of course, but without much context (again) you're left to yourself. And then you've got a lengthly explanation of a pretty simple setup that you need to try and abstractly debug. All of this in a very cold and unwelcoming way.

      Engineering Manager Interview

      3 Dec 2024

      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Distribusion in Nov 2024

      Interview

I recently had an unusual technical interview experience following an initial HR screening. The position in question was for an engineering manager role, yet the interviewer seemed to lack the experience typically associated with evaluating such a position, which felt misaligned with the seniority of the role. The interview was divided into three parts: code refactoring, a case study, and a technical talk. I approached each segment confidently and even recorded my answers for self-review afterward. Upon revisiting my work, I found that I had performed well. However, the interview process was disappointing. The interviewer appeared unprepared and unable to provide clarity on their own questions. When I sought clarification, their responses included phrases like "I don't know," "I'm too lazy to ask," "You can ask others in the next steps," or even "I don't care." This gave the impression of an unprofessional and reluctant approach, making the experience feel more like a formality than a meaningful evaluation. Ultimately, I received a rejection with no feedback, but by then, I had already realized there was a significant mismatch between my expectations and the company's structure and processes. It left me questioning the overall suitability of the organization for someone in a leadership role.

Thank you for your feedback. We genuinely appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, and we’re sorry to hear that the interview did not meet your expectations. We strive to create a thorough and professional hiring process, particularly for senior roles and we’re sorry to hear that the interview did not reflect the standard we aim for. Your feedback about the interviewer is valuable, and we will certainly review this internally. We also regret that you did not receive feedback after your interview, as we understand how important it is for candidates to receive constructive feedback. We are working on improving this aspect of our process to ensure that candidates are better supported throughout their experience. Thank you again for your feedback, and we wish you all the best in your job search. We appreciate the time and effort you invested in the process. Best regards, People Team
