      UI/User Experience Product Designer Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Docebo (Milan) in May 2019

      Interview

I had a 1:1 video call with the technical recruiter. He was nice and answered my questions about the company at large, but didn't have a lot of detail about the team / role I was applying for. This isn't unheard of, so I figured I'd keep my questions for when I was able to talk to the manager. I was then asked to do a design challenge (without even meeting the manager = red flag #1). The challenge was to redesign a legacy page on their app and make it more modern. That's essentially free work for them = red flag #2. Whether or not I get the job, they get my work to use on their site. I took a chance and did the work. After waiting a week for a response, I got an email from the technical recruiter saying that the person making the decision was on vacation. That was the last I ever heard from them. Maybe I'm old fashioned but if you ask someone to spend hours on a project the least you can do is tell them that you won't be moving forward with their application = red flag #3. Can't tell if they're even hiring for this position or just asking for free work. Either way, it's obvious that I dodged a bullet here.
