Systems Engineer (Doosan Fuelcell America) Interview

      12 Sept 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      South Windsor, CT
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Doosan (South Windsor, CT) in Sept 2016

      Interview

The process was initiated by an application I had submitted on the company's website. The company uses the software SmartRecruiters to aid in the hiring process, which does offer the applicant a handy platform to track the progress of the application. Within one week of applying I received a call from a Human Resources representative who performed an initial phone screening. The phone screening included general questions about my professional experience, salary expecations, and availability for an additional phone interview. The second phone interview was scheduled with the position's supervisor within three days of the initial phone screening. The conversation focused on requirements of the position and more specific questions related to my skills and professional experience. Most questions stemmed from requirements directly listed on the provided job description and focused on how my own professional experience related to said requirements. At the conclusion of the phone interview it was mentioned that an HR representative would contact me should they want to proceed to the next step. An HR representative contacted me within one week of the phone interview to schedule an in-person interview at the company's office. The interview was scheduled as a two-hour block with four half-hour long interview sessions where I would meet with a total of six employees of the company. The first interview session was with a senior Systems Engineer and the Systems Engineering Department Manager. They discussed they day-to-day tasks of a Systems Engineer with Doosan and asked for specific, detailed examples of how my professional experience related to the requirements of the position. After the first session is when the interview took a downward turn as the gentleman for the second interview session did not show up for the interview session and I ended up sitting with the senior Systems Engineer for an additional half an hour as she stalled for time. The third interview session was supposed to be with two individuals, but one of the individuals did not show up. I did meet with one of Doosan's Project Managers who asked additional questions about my professional experience and painted a broader picture of Doosan Fuelcell's trajectory. The gentleman for the fourth interview session also did not show up, and I spent the last 30 minutes of the 2-hour block waiting in case he was stuck in a meeting or was just busy and running late. There were no real explanation for any of the abscences from anyone and once it was apparent that there would be no fourth interview session I left. One week later I received the cookie-cutter "we have decided to proceed with other applicants who more closely fit our needs" email. Overall, the interview process was not difficult and everyone I actually spoke with was certainly nice and polite, but the execution of the in-person interview left me feeling incredibly slighted, even if I was a long-shot for the position.
