      Technical Support Engineer Interview

      25 Aug 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

      I interviewed at Dtex Systems

      Interview

The process took about three weeks, partly due to a geographically dispersed team(call scheduling). 4 interviews: 1st is with their HR/recruiting - mainly going over requirements and qualifications, 2nd - with their VP of support /customer success and another VP/director, 3rd - technical, 4th - with their support manager. Lots of vibe checking and making sure that you are the right fit. Overall good impression, especially from non-HR people. The technical interview was of average difficulty - some general troubleshooting and Linux questions. The fact that HR asked desired salary on the phone call and expected me to answer right away was sort of sneaky. I received an offer almost immediately after the 4th interview and countered asking for more money and a delayed start day. After that HR became unresponsive, and I sort of got ghosted for about a week. That was a red flag, and I started focusing on other opportunities. They ended up not making a counteroffer and moved on.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Dtex Systems (San Jose, CA) in Jun 2024

      Interview

Job was posted on Linked-In. Initial contact and conservation was with the recruiter. Each of the following was a separate zoom meeting, except with recruiter (camera on for all meetings) on different days. First interview was with the hiring manager. This was mostly general chat about experience and culture Second interview was the technical interview. Third interview was a week later. This interview wasn't either technical or much of a general chat. Interviewer seemed a little annoyed to be there. Silly questions like "vi or emacs and why?" Fourth interview was a week later with some vp in Australia. It lasted about 30 minutes where the conservation was general. I walked away with mixed feelings as the vp clearly didn't feel comfortable with my age based on a few passing comments. I am a good 20 years older than this vp After this I was ghosted. One week after the last interview I email the recruiter asking for an update. We had a phone conversation where he stated that the headcount needs to be approved and that will take about two weeks. WTF?. why post a job and run an interview cycle if the headcount isn't approved. Three weeks later I'm still waiting. You may want to pass on this company based on the above and other info I learned from interviewing. 1) this is a very late stage start-up (series f). Seems the funding options are running out 2) internal processes are a mess. Again, based on interviewing it sounds like no internal documentation and people build silos. I don't get the ghosting part. Why not just give an update instead of being so unprofessional?.
