      Management Trainee Interview

      10 Jul 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Singapore
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at EU Holidays (Singapore)

      Interview

Was invited for a talk about company culture and the various departments you would be posted to. (Fact: Everybody starts at the sales counter for the first 2 years.) Those who attended were pretty young (and obviously inexperienced) or those looking for a career change. HR went on and on about the awesome work culture and passion for travel but conveniently shrugged off the part where his job-listing stated a salary of $5k per month. Those passionate (or naive) enough to fall for this misleading ad should expect a salary of 1.5k - 2k /month for the next 5 years (tbh, who's going to stay that long?) If you went by HR's analogy every job should state it's CEO/Director's salary because that's a candidate's potential salary after 20-30 years. The interview after was pretty much cajoling candidates into being salespeople (by starting from bottom) in a style that's similar to recruiting financial planners with degrees for cheap. Diploma holders might even think twice with the poor salary range and benefits. Seriously, if HR wishes to recruit those who are passionate to take on the job - state the true starting salary and your expectations on your ad. Indicating something that can only be achieved 5 years down the road is not only deceiving, but wastes everybody's time coming down to listen to you. I'm writing this since such info couldn't be found anywhere when I looked before my "interview". On the flip side, fresh grads also have to be discerning enough - wanna earn 5k without experience? Travel agencies generally pay pretty low. You should consider working at a big bank or sales. Back to HR - your services may be good or reasonably priced but this is bad recruiting at its finest.
