For starters, the process for interns is a bit different than our normal FTE hires. While onsite interviews were limited, there are often times phone interviews as well to determine overall fit for the role. Secondly, Salaries ARE NOT based on what a candidate puts on their application. Salaries are based on the job responsibilities and the cost of labor to fill those roles. A lot of research goes into leveling roles and determining the right compensation. I am sure there were some other considerations behind the scenes that you were not likely privy to.
