      Marketing Interview

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Elevate

      Interview

The interview process was pretty standard (all virtual over BlueJeans). 1st Round: Recruiter 2nd Round: Hiring Manager 3rd Round: Connect with the team 4th Round: VP interview (more on this below) 5th Round: Interview with Global Manager Elevate is a great company with a brilliant team passionate about the company and the services they provide. I had a great time connecting with the team...until I connected with the VP in the final round. It started out great (as it did with my other conversations). We spoke about her background, my passions, my interest in the company, etc. I asked my standard questions: professional development and growth, team culture, etc. but when I asked her about Diversity and Inclusion, and the steps leadership is taking to diversify their leadership and teams, she immediately became defensive –– which, as you could imagine, is alarming. She when on to speak with (in my opinion) a complete lack of empathy about hiring more diverse talent and the company's mission to move that forward. (I do want to point out that Elevate does a great job showing their diversity report and holding themselves accountable for hiring more diverse talent). This, however, did not come across at all when talking to the VP. I left the conversation disheartened and uneasy about the role. Fast forward to decision day, I got a call from the recruiter saying that I was not going to be offered the position. The recruiter expressed how shocked they were, especially considering I was THE frontrunner, and the team was extremely excited to have me join. I asked for feedback and the reasoning behind the decision, and the recruiter said the VP communicated that I lacked a specific amount of experience –– even though, I did (and do) have the amount of experience for the job, and during our conversation, we never spoke about my experience or job history (which is weird now that I look back). Honestly, in retrospect, I truly believe the VP was not only uncomfortable with the diversity and inclusion question, but also wasn't as accepting towards me and my background as the rest of the team. Overall though, aside from that experience, Elevate seems like an innovative company that's doing amazing work. I hope their leadership and teams will continue working on reflecting the communities (and companies) they serve.

As Head of Global Recruitment and Elevate’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiative, I want to apologize that your experience during the interview process was not what you’d hoped for and left you with the impression that Elevate does not value diversity, equity and inclusion. Elevate considers diversity, equity and inclusion as a top priority and is committed to building an inclusive environment globally. Hiring managers and interviewers are responsible for interviewing and hiring in a way that is fair, unbiased, and exhibits a high value for difference. We understand that innovative businesses like ours benefit from a workforce consisting of people with many different backgrounds and experiences. I understand that your encounter with one individual was less than welcoming, but I would hope that you found it was not reflective of Elevate as a whole. If you would like to discuss your experience further, I welcome you to contact me directly - Jacquie Champagne, Director Talent Acquisition/Global Head Diversity, Equitability and Inclusion
