      Online English Tutor Interview

      11 Dec 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at English 1 (London, England) in Dec 2020

      Interview

I rarely leave negative reviews for companies, but faceless rejections with generic templates get my gripe. I applied for a job in England as an Online English Teacher. EF use some sort of automated email system that handles the generic emails to and from potential candidates. I highly doubt that email box is even monitored. For an International Teaching company who expect teachers to be open and communicative that's quite ironic using a faceless system for hiring teachers. My interview was with Thomas Pinks. I did not really know what to expect as they never replied to the pre-interview part. I only got a generic reminder. The pre-interview part has a collection of very vague slides and a smattering of text just above that is not very clear; that would suit an Neuro-Typical with Linear Thinking, it's not Neuro-Divergent friendly and only caters for one type of logic system. When Thomas Pinks came online I showed the small white board I use to teach my students with. He seemed to like that as I had wrote a greeting on there. I started ok, but a little quickly due to nerves, but I composed myself and slowed down. Things went ok at first until he asked me the same ridiculous question as other language schools that only has one answer. I disagree with forcing my students inline just to keep up the pace and finish the class. Thomas's facial expressions changed after that when I told him I would use a dynamic approach and give the student something else for a few minutes before refocusing the student. Or, if the student was just too tired and falling asleep. I would request to end the lesson early and try to relay content off schedule for the remaining 10 minutes or so. Come on Thomas, these are children. Do you really expect a teacher to force children inline and not adapt to their circumstances. I know by your facial expression this is when you rejected me; you even ended the interview 1 minute after that; 30 minutes early! What's worse is that you got your team to send me a faceless generic rejection template 4 minutes later. I would never recommend EF to anybody. I hoped I could improve your teaching by working for you. Do you even know how many students you have been losing over the past 2 years? I have 2 of them; 1 also went to XDF. They were both a mess when they came to where I was teaching; ELL level all over the place. That was very challenging, but I was patient and adapted to their needs and suceeded. Let's hope I can find a better Language school that is more dynamic and use my wider skills to teach Children English.
