Interview Process
- HR phone screen
- Technical call with an engineer on the team
- Take-home coding assignment and code-review session
- Final “cultural fit” interview
What Went Well
All of the technical interviews were excellent: the engineers were welcoming, made the conversation feel like a peer discussion, and I passed each round without issue.
Concerns with the Cultural-Fit Interview
Unfortunately, this final interview did not feel at all “cultural.” A few items stood out:
- Tardiness without notice. The interviewer arrived 15 minutes late and only apologized after I emailed to ask if we were still meeting.
- Constant interruptions. Every time I began to describe one of my prepared examples, I was cut off, only a handful of stories reached completion.
- Subjective feedback on mannerisms. The interviewer commented on my eye movements and tone (“sounding like I’m reading”), despite my offer to share my screen or meet in person to demonstrate that I was speaking naturally.
- Lack of two-way dialogue. He ignored my suggestion of an on-site follow-up and did not allow me to ask any questions.
Overall Impression
- The technical team showcased strong professionalism, but the behavior in the cultural-fit stage felt dismissive and unprofessional.
- I shared this feedback with HR, and was told it would be passed along, no further acknowledgment or clarification followed.
Recommendation
Entrust has a lot to offer, and I’d encourage the organization to provide additional interviewer training, especially on respecting candidates’ time, allowing them to complete their responses, and focusing on relevant, job-related criteria rather than personal mannerisms.
I remain appreciative of the positive experiences I had in the technical rounds, but I hope this feedback can help improve the final stage for future candidates.
