      Interview

I received an unsolicited message on LinkedIn asking if I’d be interested in interviewing for an open position. I responded that I would be interested and sent over my resume. Had a 20-30 minute conversation with a recruiter (general background, company culture, salary, basic HR stuff). Almost 2 weeks no reply back. After I reached out I was told that the engineering manager was looking for someone with a different skill set. Why waste my time on the phone if you don’t even want to interview me?

Thank you for sharing your feedback about your interview process. We’re sorry to hear your experience was negative. As part of our recruiting process, we leverage platforms like LinkedIn to source and reach out to candidates for our open positions. After first contact with a candidate, the first step of every interview process is a phone screen, where we get general information about a candidate’s background and what they are looking for in their next role. From this step, we review the candidate’s resume and data gathered from the phone screen to determine with the hiring manager whether a candidate will move forward in the interview process. Unfortunately, in your case, we chose not to move you forward to the next round, as your background did not fit what the hiring manager was looking for in their open role. If you have any concerns we can further address, please reach out to your recruiter.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Epirus

      Interview

Whole process takes couple weeks. Eventually got the panel interview virtually. Engineer who was schedule to interview me the first for my panel was 30mins late. No explanation. Recruiter was not answering the phone call during that time. 30mins later by the time when I decided to drop the meeting, recruiter called me and ask me to log on and start the panel interview. Then they give me a bunch of questions that are sorted from SpaceX and Tesla interview question list on Glassdoor. It is fairly easy to pass as long as individuals go through interviews section on SpaceX and Tesla Glassdoor page. Because first person was late, all the rest of team got pushed 30mins back. I had a back to back interview with another company after Epirus so I have to drop off my conversation with the last engineer who is the hiring manager. Red flag #1: Engineer was 30mins late on a panel. Recruiter is not watching the process to respond. Ref flag #2: Engineer did not put effort to come up some innovative questions. Instead, they just copy and paste other company’s questions.
