      Brand Designer Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Escapely in Mar 2023

      Interview

I applied on a Friday and got an email the following Tuesday to set up an interview. I gave her dates and times and asked her to let me know which date she chose so I could block time off my calendar. She did not. She called me out of the blue. Not off to a great start. It went OK on my end. Mostly softball questions from her. A couple red flags came up. She mentioned a 50-hour work week (but was reassured everyone loves their jobs. Like okay, well I still like my free time more). Then she said the last step of the interview process was a couple day trial period. I'm sorry what? I'm supposed to quit my job and work for you for a few days just to see if you like me? Talk about having a lack of confidence in your hiring process. Anyways, I gave it a shot anyways and moved forward with the process. She told me she'd send me the details for a design project to show her an example of what I can do. But when I told her it took me a few days to complete the project, apparently that was unacceptable to her. It felt unfair because most people cannot complete niche projects they have no experience in, in a couple hours. I'm glad they rejected me because I didn't have to deny this red flag of a company.
