I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Express Employment Professionals (Kitchener, ON) in Apr 2016
Interview
I was contacted over the phone for an interview shortly after applying via LinkedIn. At the time I was quoted a hiring salary range which I was comfortable with and I felt the job description was quite clear on the job advertisement.
Upon arriving at the interview, I was given a long winded explanation of the job description which did not match the description advertised or discussed over the phone. The interviewer explained that salary would also be based on cold-calling and maintaining a certain percentage of successful calls a month in order to stay employed (the position advertised had nothing at all to do with sales), and this was typical for all employees in this office. I was also told that they had one other person who they were considering hiring if I didn't decide right away.
Then the interviewer quickly added that the salary is actually $6 an hour less than what I was told over the phone and it was non-negotiable, though 'maybe' that could change in a year of working there.
I was lied to over the phone by the same person who later interviewed me. I believe this tactic is called 'bait-and-switch' and is completely unethical. I would never have wasted either of our time attending this interview had I been told the truth over the phone.
I stopped the interview there.
My advice: Run for the hills! I refuse to work for a company who's standards are this unethical.
