I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Fathom in May 2026
Interview
Extremely long process, took 7 weeks from initial contact to rejection with the meaningless "the team really liked you but made the difficult decision to move forward with another candidate" cr*p. Anyway, was on the fence if I'd even accept an offer as throughout it seemed like they're constantly fire fighting, expectations of 50hrs+ (straight up asked for) and competitors with deeper pockets. Almost all interviewers were friendly and thoughtful but one seemed aggressive/negative from the get go. They're also recording all interviews with their own system, asking for consent and the option to also get access to the recording, this only worked for the initial recruiter chat though

Take home: Write a server that accepts/serves rtmp connections and shuts down gracefully with some rules.
Other common questions like tell me about a time ...
Interviewed with the full HR/TA team over three rounds, followed by leadership. Focused on culture fit and behavioral questions. Lengthy, multi-stage process centered on team alignment. Not sure what else to write. This has been more than 30 words.

Interview
Had a great initial conversation with the CTO, was asked to complete a take-home design problem (2+ hours) and scheduled for a interview to review it. Submitted my response 2 days before the interview, they ghosted me on the interview and never sent any follow up or responded after cancelling the meeting 2min before it was scheduled to start. Took time off work for the interview and was left hanging with no feedback as to why. Incredibly rude and disrespectful of my time. Just say no to take-home assignments.
